Titanic Simulation

Just finished watching James Cameron’s amazing narration of the sinking of the Titanic. It sank about 100 years ago on the 14 /04/1912. What fascinated me the most how all these experts from different fields coming together to piece the puzzle of the sinking, in essence “problem solving”. We may never know what precisely happened on that fateful day, but nevertheless I believe with the technology and the knowledge we possess now we may have come very close to knowing what really happened on that fateful day. I liked what JC said at the end., we as humanity are heading towards another iceberg, in terms of climate change and greed. We are going to hit that iceberg and billions (poor ones of course) are going to suffer the consequences. It seems almost all things in the world revolves around money and human greed. And we in schools are teaching kids on how to take tests and and get a good job to get sucked into this momentum of greed and destruction. We must teach kids the reality of what is out there! It all nice and rosy when we study the environment and the past and current state of the world, but most of it gets lost when they step into the real world. Take for example the simple problem of smoking in Indonesia. It’s the only country in the world that has been able to ratify the international tobacco treaty to impose some control on these tobacco companies. Such is the might and power of this industry. This is reality! For all the charisma, intelligence and so called spirituality of the leaders of this nation, they are mere slaves the tobacco industry and probably cigarette addicts themselves. What we teach and what’s out there doesn’t correlate! My apologies for the Sunday night ramblings, but now that I’ve got it all out of my chest… time to move on. Of course as an educator I try my best to inspire them to be action takers and problem solvers. I some small little ways I have made some sacrifices to this end (believe me it’s not easy). Maybe some of them will become leaders who may be able to change the tide of things. We can only hope… In the mean time enjoy the video…
