The Importance of Cultivating a Reading Habit

A great article, that got me thinking about my own passion for reading. Growing up having very little resource to books, almost any book became a treasure. Unfortunately the very first book I obtained was not one that I bought, but one that I took from my neighbours garage without permission (well, technically an act of stealing). For the recored I did return the book and confessed to my crime but my forgiving neighbour allowed me to keep the book. It was a world history  book that opened my eyes to events and figures that I did not know who existed. Well, as they say, the rest was history. Kids today do not like to read and partly it’s due to lack of encouragement and example from home. It’s something educators all over the world grapple with, how do we get our kids to read more and see the value it?

Reading Books Is FundamentalThe first thing I can remember buying for myself, aside from candy, of course, was not a toy. It was a book. It was a religious picture book about Job from the Bible, bought at Kmart.
