Under which conditions does ICT have a positive effect on teaching and learning?

This paper started with the question ‘Under which conditions does ICT have a positive effect on teaching and learning?’ Eight actions are proposed to join forces in order to realize successful implementation of ICT in education.

I think the eight actions proposed are excellent well grounded in research, or as an educator in practice see how my current actions does relate to the proposed actions. But a comprehensive action in only possible when there is a concerted effort from all stakeholders. living in Indonesia, there is a great disparity in understand and usage of ICT between International and public schools.

“Practitioners have doubts about the value of research for their practice, while researchers are dissatisfied about the unwillingness of practitioners to utilize findings from research.”

The above statement in a way describes the disconnect between practitioners and researchers. More collaboration and involvement directly with practitioners from schools can help the initiatives move along faster.

A great idea that I believe will benefit the teaching community will be the cohesive development and regular update of International Handbook of Information Technology in Primary and Secondary Education and for the identification of emerging research themes to be addressed, developed jointly with leading industries.
