Digital Immigrant

Well, that’s what I thought of myself initially, but I definitely think this stereotyping no longer applies. In a way, it is similar to when we ask ourselves who is a ‘native speaker’. Is it a birthplace right, or one that identifies certain skill sets?

My kids may know and be comfortable with technology more than me when I was their age but does not mean they use it more productively and effectively than me. It is not what you know, but what you do with what you know that matters most.

Some may feel more at home with technology than others, some may be experts and some may abhor it or find it challenging. People may fall along a spectrum between  immigrant and  a native depending on their confidence and skill sets. I was born in the era of immigrants but definitely feel like a native at my current stage. I personally believe it depends on your passion and desire to engage with technology and some will more than others.
